The objective of Bodegas Mauro (situated in the Castillian town of Tudela del Duero) when it was originally set up in the late 1970s, was to rival the best of Spain. In this they have been very successful. Mauro wines are created, amongst others, under the auspices of Mariano Garcia, former winemaker at Vega Sicilia, who remains chief winemaker here.
This Mauro is made up of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Syrah picked at optimum maturity from vines that are, in many cases, 60 years old and more. After vinification, the wine was matured for sixteen months in new and used French and American barrels developing a dense Ò almost opaque ” purple colour.
Elegant, precise and concentrated on the nose with a clean and charming expression of fruit; ripe, red and black fruits dominate with delicate floral smoky notes. This is carried through to the rich, full bodied palate, where the sweet fruit flavours flood the mouth, layered with perfectly balanced silky tannins and a long, fresh finish that hints of lime. This fabulously complex, structured wine will continue to evolve and provide drinking pleasure for the next ten or twelve years
Production and, thus, availability of Mauro is very limited (only 30% gets exported)
